Fire Danger Level
Weather information is provided by remote, automated weather stations and then used as an input to the Weather Information Management System (WIMS). The NFDRS processor in WIMS produces a fire danger rating based on fuels, weather, and topography. Fire danger maps are produced daily.

Special Announcement:
In the third year of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service received 573 applications requesting more than $1.6 billion. Review panels made up of representatives from Tribes and state forestry agencies selected 58 proposals totaling $200 million. We at Bastrop County ESD #2 applied for and have received a grant for $4,303,177 for wildfire fuels reduction implementation and fire prevention.
This grant will allow us to significantly reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires on the lives and property for our residents. The project will provide the equipment, training, and necessary personnel needed to conduct a strategic and collaborative hazardous fuels mitigation and risk reduction program for its 5-year life cycle. The project is intended to quickly build capacity for hazardous fuels reduction and implement shaded fuel breaks, defensible space, and other hazardous fuels projects. We will be implementing fuels mitigation treatments around communities and important transportation corridors. A Fire Prevention Technician will implement a fire prevention and education program, mitigation workshops, educational tours and other outreach.
We are excited for the opportunity to better serve our community.
